Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in gender educational effects of oral health education among 7 year old children, and to seek changes in oral hygiene status, oral health knowledge, and oral health behavior. Oral health education was conducted through singing and rhythmic singing, puppetry, and oral panel education. In addition, evaluation
of oral health knowledge through the Patient Hygiene Performance (PHP) Index, picture questionnaires, and parentally guided behavioral changes in the children were evaluated before and after education. A statistically significant educational effect was observed in all children when oral health education was implemented (p<0.01). However, there was no statistically significant difference with regard to gender before and after education (p>0.05). Therefore, the future direction
of oral health education should be to uniformly provide oral health education in order to enhance children¡¯s participation and their cooperation in building good oral hygiene management habits, as well as to improve oral care abilities regardless of gender.
